It is often said that one must take out time to pursue a hobby in the midst of our fast paced lives. This hobby can be of collecting old notes, postal stamps or those of our favourite political leaders. Such hobbies give an individual a different sense of joy and happiness. But what about those who have a hobby of pursuing love and compassion?

Marathi Cinema is all set to witness a story of two such people who are pursuing love and compassion and will be releasing soon. The film is titled Chhand Preeticha and a poster of the same was recently launched. The film’s poster reminds one of films like Pinjra and Saangte Aika. The film which is based on a local Tamasha and promises to entertains everyone from rural to urban audiences, stars Subodh Bhave, Suvarna Kale and newcomer Harsh Kulkarni in lead roles and also features Sharad Ponkshe, Vikas Samudre, Suhasini Deshpande and Ganesh Yadav.

The film is written and directed by N Relekar and produced by Chandrakant Jadhav. The film’s cinematography is done by Jitendra Achrekar and the music is composed by Praveen Kunwar.

Produced by Premla Pictures, Chhand Preeticha is set to release on 10th November all across Maharashtra.

We all know the famous Wax museum Madame Tussauds in London for its wax statues of some renowned personalities. This Museum has many branches all over the world and recently they opened their new branch in Delhi, India. But it’s not possible for everyone to visit Delhi to see fine wax sculpture of their favorite ones. So Sunil Kandaloor had glance at all this and he understood that this could be a great way to achieve his dreams. Sunil who is born and brought up in Kerla, is the most well-known wax sculpture artist in India and first one to have a Wax museum in Lonavala and Kochi. His museums have sculptures of many eminent personalities, e.g.  Adolf Hitler, Lionel Messi, NarendraModi, Mahatma Gandhi etc. His museums have become one of the most visited tourist spots.

After having such a great response for his two ventures, recently he opened his third branch in Devgad, Ratnagiri with the help of MLA Mr. Nitish Rane, who is a renowned and a sensational leader. Coming from a political background Rane has done lot of work in Konkan region for its betterment. So he decided to make Konkan more charming and with this museum. Konkan is famous for mangos and beaches. Ganesh utsav and Holi, these two festivals are celebrated on a grand scale in Kokan. Most of the Mumbaikar’s who belongs to Kokan visit their native places during these festivals. And hence this Ganesh UtsavNitish Rane decided to give a pleasant surprise to them and the natives of Kokan and he brought wax sculptures of the leading actors of Marathi industry Ankush Chaudhari and glamorous actress Amruta Khanvilkar, which has increased excitement among their fans. Both the actors have always been a style icon for the younger generation and have been favourites of the audience for their brilliant performances and acting skills. Along with the wax sculptures of NarendraModi, Indira Gandhi, Lionel Messi, and Superstar Rajnikant, now AnkushChaudhari and AmrutaKhanvilkar’s wax statue will also be a treat for the visitors, at Wax Museum Devgad.

Wax museum having wax statues of Marathi Celebrities is something which we all can be proud of. In the next two months we can see the wax statues of Bollywood celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Salman Khan as well as Marathi actors Swwapnil Joshi, Sai Tamhankar and Tejaswini Pandit. With an intention of applauding women’s resilience and their fighting spirit, this year’s Uncha Mazha Zhoka awards, took place in a very encouraging environment, similar to the previous years. This year marks the fifth year of the awards ceremony and it intends to recognize and award women in diverse fields, whose tireless efforts have played an instrumental role in bringing a change in the attitude, thought processes and mentality of the society. For her immense contribution, Sunandabai Patwardhan was awarded the Jeevan Gaurav Puraskar and Anuna tai Wagh was also lauded for Grammangal, her unique educational institution. The award ceremony was attended by distinguished luminaries hailing from the fields of social welfare, cultural arts and politics.

Maharashtra has had a long and proud history of women activists and social reformers. Among them, some have been rightfully acknowledged and saluted in the later years, while some have been languishing under obscurity, leaving many people unaware of their importance. The Uncha Mazha Zhoka award aims to recognize and award the efforts of such unsung women reformers and bring them in the spotlight.

Dr Vaishali Patil who launched an agitation for the rights of displaced Adivasis, Pramila Kakde who runs a school for the blind and specially abled children, Lalita Babar who made it to the final rounds in the steeplechase competition in the Rio Olympics, Nirmala Kandalgaonkar whose garbage and waste management practices have helped to generate employment in large numbers, Aruna Dhere whose written works have helped Marathi literature scaled new heights and Dr. Vidita Vaidya whose research studies in Neurosciences have broken new grounds are some of the many achievers that were feted this year at the Uncha Mazha Zhoka awards.

An endearing moment of the ceremony was when Gauri Sawant given an award. For several years now, she has been fighting for the rights of the Transgenders, a community that has been marginalized by the society for a long time. Sawant a transgender herself had a harrowing time coming to terms with her own sexuality. And when she shared some of these experiences, the audiences were left with a lump in the throat. She said “The society has always kept us at an arm’s length. People look at us in a demeaning way whenever they spot us in the trains or at the traffic signals. They ask us why we don’t do anything about our miserable state. I want to ask them that why haven’t you done anything for us? We don’t ask much of you, but to view us with empathy and that should do the needful.

Sunanda Patwardhan who has founded and nurtured educational institutions in faraway barren Adivasi settlements like Jawhar and Mokhada was awarded Jeevan Gaurav Puraskar.   Hon. Justice Shri Chandrashekhar Dharamdhikari presented this award to Patwardhan. Thanks to her endless efforts, hardwork and dedication, Patwardhan managed it to make it to the final round of the Steeplechase competition at the Rio Olympics 2016. And she was lauded for the same in the awards ceremony. The event saw several noted artists give splendid dance performances and win the hearts of the attendees. The show was conceptualized by noted actors Prasad Oak and Umesh Kamat, while Kshitij Patwardhan handed the writing and directorial responsibilities. The Award selection process was smoothly handled by noted editor Girish Kuber and Dr. Snehalata Deshmukh, the Vice Chancellor of Mumbai University. The Uncha Mazha Zhoka Award ceremony will be telecast on 27^th August at 7 pm IST on Zee Marathi and Zee Marathi HD.

Shivaji Park Mumbai 28 has been written by Abhiram Bhadkamkar and the cinematography is being handled by Karan Rawat. The title of the film promises a fresh and unique affair. Post Shwaas (2014) which played a pivotal role in shaping the new age Marathi Cinema, the first look of director Sandeep Sawant’s latest venture Nadi Vahate was recently launched on social media. The film is releasing in cinemas on the 22^nd of September.

In today’s times, preservation and maintenance of rivers has become a passionate cause for activists. However conducting protests and marches is not the solution for this cause. But understanding how the rivers and their resources can be used effectively is the need of the hour and forms the basis of the plot of Nadi Vahate. The film which has been prodcued by Sandeep Sawant and Neeraja Patwardhan and has won Special Jury Awards at Pune International Film Festival and Zee Gaurav Puraskar have based their film on the organisations fighting for the cause of preservation of rivers. The film has been shot and edited by Sanjay Memane and Neeraj Voralia respectively. Suhas Rane has worked on the location sound, while the sound design has been handled by Mandar Kamlapurkar. The backgorund score of the film has been composed by Tushar and Jairaj and Neeraja Patwardhan has designed the costumes for the film.

The film has been shot in the Kudal, Dodamarg regions of Sindhudurg, the foothills of the Western Ghats region in Sawantwadi and Valpoi, Saakhli and Satteri regions of Western Goa.

Marathi Cinema is expanding everyday due to the changing definition of Marathi films. The independent flow of biopics has been created in recent times and Marathi films have got a good response. On the basis of the love of Premanand Ramani, the graphic ‘Tath Kana’- The power of imagination’ is coming. The first glimpse of this film produced by Pradnya Creation was presented at the hands of former MP Ramshet Thakur recently. Vijay Mudshingkar, Neelam Mudshingkar and Karuna Pandit are the producers of this film and directed by Dasbabu. The story-script-dialogues are by Shrikant Baweveyar. Music is  produced by Rajesh Dabre.
