Riteish Deshmukh opts for herbal cigarettes for his role in Banjo!

Riteish Deshmukh, who will be seen playing a street musician in Eros International’s musical drama, Banjo, had to come out of his comfort zone to shoot for a smoking sequence.

While shooting for the movie, directed by critically-acclaimed filmmaker Ravi Jadhav, Riteish had to enact couple of scenes in which his role required him to smoke. But since the talented actor is a non-smoker, he used herbal cigarettes to make his performance look real and believable.

A source says, “Riteish is against smoking. He was asked to smoke for some of his previous roles as well. But he always said no. However, in Banjo, he is playing the role of a street performer. He realised that his role required him to smoke.”

So, he opted for herbal cigarettes that do not contain tobacco. Riteish confirms, “To make my character look more believable, I was supposed to smoke in a few scenes, as that was integral to the script. Thankfully, I had to smoke herbal cigarettes and not the actual ones that are harmful.”

Banjo, produced by Eros International and directed by Ravi Jadhav starring Riteish Deshmukh and Nargis Fakhri, releases on 23rd September.

Earthy, real and fascinating is what describes Eros International’s Banjo’s trailer. The musical trailer that brings to light the concept of street musicians and the journey of the Banjo players is the first for a mainstream Hindi cinema.

The trailer of Banjo was launched amidst a packed house by Riteish Deshmukh, Nargis Fakhri, director Ravi Jadhav and producer Krishika Lulla was launched amidst fan-fare today.

With live performances by Riteish and Nargis along with real banjo players, the event turned out to be a musical extravaganza! Interestingly, the same banjo players who are part of ‘Lalbaug Beats’ banjo group from Mumbai’s Lalbaug area have also been part of the film. The musicians played iconic Bollywood tunes that used Banjo in their compositions at the event.

Producer Krishika Lulla says, “At Eros, we always believe in exploring different subjects and I don’t think anybody has ever explored the concept of street musicians in Bollywood. Banjo is a beautiful story and an interesting team put together. I’m very proud of Banjo.”

Says Riteish Deshmukh, “Watching banjo players during festivals always attracted me. Working on Banjo fulfilled my dream and wish to play the instrument. Banjo is special because like the Banjo group members, the team working on the film is equally great. All of them make my experience special.”

Nargis Fakhri adds, “It’s the story of the street players and their hope of making it big which was quite fascinating. It truly resonates with your soul. I’m grateful to Krishika Lulla for having me be part of the film.”

John Abraham’s never seen before avatar for Dishoom promotions!

John Abraham, usually known calm and poised demeanor, recently surprised everyone, including his staff by breaking this mold, during one of the promotional activities of his upcoming movie, ‘Dishoom.’ The actor who broke into an impromptu jig on the hit songs from his movies Desi Boyz, Shootout at Wadala and Dishoom, took the entire cast and crew by surprise while shooting for an integration episode of ‘Chala Hawa Yeu Dya’. He not only set the mood for the episode but also made Varun Dhawan perform the signature steps from ‘Toh Dishoom’.
