Mandar Cholkar : The Poet Who Writes Emotions

Writing a poem is not an easy task. A poem essentially involves emotions like love, friendship, sensitivity and more, that need to be put on paper and only a poet can do so. A prominent name that features in this list of poets is that of Mandar Cholkar. Starting off from writing poems and moving on to writing lyrics for songs, Mandar is today one of the most popular lyricists among youngsters today. His poems have found way into peoples’ hearts through songs; be it with the emotional ‘Deva Tujhya Gaabharyala‘ from Duniyadari or the natyageet ‘Man Mandira‘ from ‘Katyar Kaljat Ghusli’.
Mandar’s foray into song-writing happened in 2009. One of his poems was adapted into a song for singer Yogita Chitale’s album ‘Life is Beautiful‘ by composer Nilesh Moharir. His association with Nilesh turned into a fruitful one. Soon, his four-liners turned into full-fledged poems and as of today, Mandar has penned the lyrics for more than 70 Marathi songs. He has not written songs for films like Shyamche Vadil, Duniyadari, Classmates, Mitwaa, Online Binline, Shortcut, Guru, Friends, Marathi Tigers, Daagdi Chaawl, Por Bazar, Katyar Kaljat Ghusli, Bandh Nylon Che, Phuntroo, Pindadaan, Arundavan, Ekk Albela, Taleem, Kanha and One Way Ticket.

Mandar has even written the lyrics of songs from the Akshay Kumar starrer Rustom. He has also written ad jingles and it won’t be wrong to say that he has ably performed the big responsibility of writing songs, something that’s an important part of the film business.
Apart from Marathi singers, he has worked with Arijit Singh, Shaan, Sonu Nigam, Hariharan, Shankar Mahadevan and Asha Bhosle. Plus, his list of collaborations includes names like Ashok Patki, Shridhar Phadke, Ajay-Atul, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Avadhoot Gupte, Chinar-Mahesh, Prafull Karlekar and Nilesh Moharir among others. The film industry has taken notice of this lyricist who has been awarded with the Radio Mirchi upcoming lyricist award as well as the Best Lyricist award at international film festivals held in Nashik and Kalyan.

Mandar’s journey continues even today and we will get to hear his words through upcoming films like Fugay, Khel, Jo Jo Re Bala, Jeet, Radio Nights, Agadbamb 2, Kalti, Grahan, Ti Aani Itar, Visarjan, Satya, Ramprahar, Full On, Ropta, Mix Veg, Bhram, Shubhmangal, Hrudayantar and more.
