Iron Man and Jungle Book director’s hit indie film to be remade in Hindi by Abundantia, Eros International & Alumbra Entertainment

Mumbai, November 25, 2015: In a major move that is set to put the Indian movie business on the world content map, Abundantia Entertainment, Eros International and Alumbra Entertainment today announced that they would produce the Hindi remake of the high-profile Hollywood hit, ‘Chef’. The producers also confirmed getting leading man, Saif Ali Khan, to star in the iconic role.

‘Chef’, is a 2014 breakthrough hit film that was written, produced and directed by Jon Favreau who also featured in the titular role essaying Chef Casper. The multi-talented Favreau shot to fame with the 1996-film, Swingers and since then has had a long and distinguished career in Hollywood. Amongst his vast of range of films, Jon has directed Iron Man, Iron Man 2 and Elf among others and has been the executive producer on Iron Man 3 and Marvel’s Avengers franchise.

The critically appreciated and commercially successful ‘Chef’, which boasts of a famous supporting cast with the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Sofía Vergara, John Leguizamo, Scarlett Johansson and Dustin Hoffman and amongst others, is the story of professional Chef, Carl Casper, (played by Favreau himself). Carl, quits his job at a popular Los Angeles restaurant after refusing to compromise his creative integrity to its controlling owner. As he tries to figure out his next move, he finds himself in his hometown, Miami, where he teams up with his ex-wife, friend and son to launch a food truck. Taking to the road, Chef Carl goes back to his roots to reignite his passion for the kitchen and his zest for life and love. What follows is an endearing journey of relationships, self-discovery and success.

Earlier this year, Abundantia Entertainment, founded by Vikram Malhotra (formerly COO – Viacom18 Motion Pictures) acquired the remake rights from Favreau’s company, Fairview Entertainment and went on to partner with Eros International, India’s leading film studio and Alumbra Entertainment.. The Hindi version will be distributed and released by Eros worldwide.

पत्रकार परिषदेत बोलताना ऑस्कर पुरस्कार विजेते रहसुल पोकुट्टी म्हणाले की, चित्रपट सृष्टीच्या तंत्रज्ञानात झपाट्याने बदल घडत आहे. मात्र सिनेमाच्या साऊंडच्या बाबतीत काही दोन-तीन वर्षापासून बदल घडण्यास सुरुवात झाली आहे. सिनेमाची शुटिंग झाल्यानंतर त्या सिनेमाला बॅगराऊंड साऊंड दिला जातो. मात्र मराठी सिनेमात क्षितिजच्या माध्यमातून हा पहिला प्रयोग आहे की, शुटिंगच्या ऑनलोकेशनवर बॅग्राऊंड साऊंड दिल्याने त्यामध्ये एक वेगळ्या प्रकारे नैसर्गिक शुध्दता व भावनात्मकता टिकून राहते व तो सिनेमा प्रेक्षकांच्या मनाला भावतो. सिनेमाच्या साऊंड बाबत वेगवेगळे प्रयोग करण्याचा माझा प्रयत्न सतत चालू आहे. हा प्रयोग हॉलीवुड व बॉलिवुडच्या सिनेमात करण्यात आला आहे. प्रेक्षकांना घरीपण सिनेमा उपलब्ध होतो. मात्र प्रेक्षक डॉल्बी साऊंडकडे आकर्षित होऊन सिनेमागृहात येतात व चित्रपट पहाण्याचा एक वेगळा समाधान त्यांना प्राप्त होतो.

मनोज कदम दिग्दर्शित या सिनेमात अभिनेता उपेंद्र लिमये, मनोज जोशी, कांचन जाधव, संजय मोने, विद्यादर जोशी, वैष्णवी तांगडे, राजकुमार तांगडे आणि बालकलाकार अर्णव मंद्रूपकर यांच्या प्रमुख भूमिका आहेत. युएसए बेस्ट मिडिया फिल्म्स क्राफ्ट कंपनीच्या निर्मात्या नवरोझ प्रसाला आणि करिष्मा महादोलकर यांचा हा पहिला सिनेमा असून, दोघे मिळून या सिनेमाची निर्मिती करणार आहे. योगेश राजगुरू यांनी छायाचित्रिकरणाची तर मंजिरी पेंढारकर आणि नंदू गवळे कार्यकारी निर्मात्याची धुरा सांभाळली आहे. सध्या या सिनेमाचं चित्रीकरण सुरु असून येत्या वर्षात हा सिनेमा प्रेक्षकांच्या भेटीला येणार आहे.

She said on the occasion that it was always her ambition to make it as a playback singer couldn’t make it due to other commitments but when I was offered this song in this film on Gopinath Munde whom I revered a lot got me all excited and I am happy that I have got this song and I would like to pursue singing rather than composing. Presiding BJP MLA Ashish Shelar said on the occasion that ” this leader who came from a sugar cane worker farming background built sugar co-operatives and factories and who traveled all the globe and built many educational institutions and we have a lot to learn from his life and the title of the film perfectly suits his life”. He gave his best wishes for the film.
The director revealed that when he conceived the film it was only Sharad Kelkar who he thought fitted the bill for the title role and hence it was not revealed even in the first look and it was through the efforts of the make up artiste Pradeep Premgirikar which made Sharad look exactly the part. Sharad says, ” I didn’t want tpo take up the role because I was circumspect that whether I would look the part but the direcor Raut was very persistent and I made him chase around for a month but when make up man Pradeep worked on my look, I got a little bit more confident and gave my nod for the role”. The film is written by Viraj Muley and Vijay Gharge includingthe screen play and story. The rest of the cast includes Girish Pardesi, Shruti Marathe, Omkar Karve, Deepti Bhagwat, and Preetam Kangne. The ballads by Moreshwar Meshram Shahir have been composed by Anirudh Akshay and have been sung by Adarsh Shinde and Anirudh Joshi. The song sung by Amruta Phadnvis is composed by Srirang Urhekar and lyric by Mandar Chowlkar. The DOP Is Sanish Jayraj and editing is by Anant Kamath. So this film on a great leader which releases on 11 December is likely to be a good inspiration for all!
