Saint Muktabai, a luminous figure of the Bhakti movement, gained recognition for her wisdom and spiritual prowess at a young age. Revered for her profound intellect, she became a guiding light to even the most erudite saints of her time, leaving an indelible mark with her teachings.
Her inspiring life story and that of her family are now being brought to life in the grand Marathi film ‘Sant Dnyaneshwaranchi Muktai’—written and directed by Digpal Lanjekar. Produced by Reshma Kundan Thadani, the film is presented by the renowned distribution house A.A. Films and will hit theaters on April 18, 2025.
As Saint Chokhamela once beautifully expressed:
“Nivrutti and Dnyandev lovingly offered themselves to the feet of Vitthal, and so did Muktabai.”
The recently unveiled poster, featuring Muktabai in deep devotion to Lord Vitthal, has generated excitement among audiences, highlighting the film’s release date.
This cinematic endeavor sheds light on the multifaceted life of Saint Muktabai—her roles as a mother, sister, and spiritual guru—and brings forth her enduring legacy. Despite transcending the mortal world, her teachings and actions continue to resonate and inspire. The film seeks to connect today’s generation with Muktabai’s extraordinary journey, which broke gender barriers and exemplified a life steeped in devotion and spiritual strength.
Director Digpal Lanjekar describes the project as a heartfelt attempt to narrate the life of Muktabai, a saint whose austere yet devotion-filled path has the power to enlighten and uplift. The film’s co-producer is Sunny Bakshi, and the executive producer is Ketaki Gadre Abhyankar.
